Temporary road closures planned for essential works across Wakefield district
Drivers are being advised to plan ahead as a series of temporary road closures are scheduled to allow essential works to be carried out next month.
Wakefield Council has announced several temporary road closures across the district to allow water connection works and routine infrastructure testing to take place.
The closures will be introduced under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, with access to properties maintained wherever possible.
A section of Water Lane in Pontefract will be closed between its junctions with Dandy Mill Court and Dandy Mill View to allow a new water connection to be installed.
The closure is due to operate from February 2 to February 6, 2026, between 8am and 5pm, or until the works are completed. Diversions will be in place via Bondgate (A645), Box Lane and Ferrybridge Road.

In Knottingley, England Lane is set to close overnight to allow an annual level crossing test to be carried out.
The closure is scheduled to run from 10.30pm on February 16 until 5.30am on February 17, 2026, with traffic diverted via Weeland Road, Womersley Road and Spawd Bone Lane.
Meanwhile, Poplar Avenue in Castleford will be closed outside number 22 to allow a new water supply connection to be installed.
The closure is planned from 8am on February 16 until 8pm on February 20, 2026, with an alternative route available via Crewe Road, Fryston Road, Holywell Lane and Sheepwalk Lane.
The council says access to premises on the affected roads will be maintained whenever possible during the works.
