Leeds boxer Josh Warrington set for Wembley clash on Anthony Joshua v Daniel Dubois card

Leeds boxer Josh Warrington is set to face Anthony Cacace at Wembley Stadium.

‘The Leeds Warrior’ will return to action on September 21, fighting on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s high-profile battle with Daniel Dubois. It will mark a first return to the ring for Warrington since his defeat to Leigh Wood in October.

Belfast-born Cacace will be putting his IBF super-featherweight title on the line, looking to gather more momentum after stunning Joe Cordina in Saudi Arabia last month.

For Warrington, now 33, it will be a case of resurrecting his reputation after failing to take the WBA featherweight crown from Wood at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena. He enjoyed dominance in the bout but fell victim to a brutal TKO.

Speaking to BBC Sport Northern Ireland, Cacace said: “I'm buzzing, it's so exciting. I'm looking forward to everything now. I feel like winning that world title has put a new lease of life into me.

"There were a couple of opponents given to me but I thought Josh was the best fight. He's very well known in Ireland and the UK. He's very experienced, he's been around the block. He's a great fighter."

There had been talk of Warrington facing Wood in a rematch and Nottingham Forest’s City Ground has been mooted as a potential venue. However, it appears Warrington is moving on to a different challege.

Speaking at the press conference announcing the fight, Warrington said: "I want to thank Anthony and his team. This has been flirted with for a week or so, and I've nothing respect for them. Every fight that I have is a Fight of the Year contender. Boxing fans want to be entertained and see two fighters giving it their all so that's what I'll be bringing.”
