Cricket latest: Yorkshire collapse hands Durham initiative

YORKSHIRE suffered a dramatic collapse to hand the initiative to Durham on the second day of the County Championship match at Headingley Carnegie.

The home team fell from 93-2 at lunch to 147 all-out in reply to Durham’s first innings 327.

The collapse began when captain Andrew Gale miscued a delivery from Graham Onions to mid-on with the total on 100.

Moments later, Jonathan Bairstow went lbw to Onions for a duck and then Joe Root was caught behind off Onions for 45 to leave Yorkshire 113-5.

Adil Rashid was caught at slip off Ian Blackwell; Richard Pyrah was lbw to Callum Thorp for a golden duck; Ryan Sidebottom was bowled by Thorpe for two; Steve Patterson was caught behind off Onions and Moin Ashraf was caught at bat-pad off Scott Borthwick.

Gerard Brophy finished unbeaten on 19, while Onions picked up 5-51.

Durham decided not to enforce the follow-on, and when bad light forced an early end to play, the visitors were 64-3, a lead of 242 runs.
