Taylor again tops 1,000-run barrier

BRADFORD: Farsley’s Lorenzo Ingram and Chris Taylor, of Lightcliffe, both hit centuries as they reached 1,000 runs for the season.

Ingram made 114 not out, his fourth century of the season, as Farsley defeated Undercliffe by 53 runs to remain third in Division One, 43 points adrift of leaders Woodlands and 14 behind Cleckheaton with four games to play.

Captain Ian Philliskirk (77) shared a third-wicket stand of 133 with Ingram as Farsley made 288-4. Ingram then completed a fine day’s work by taking 5-37 as Undercliffe replied with 236-9.

Taylor scored 102 not out as Lightcliffe defeated Spen Victoria by 167 runs to take over at the Division Two leadership from Saltaire, whose run of nine wins was ended when they went down by eight wickets at Great Horton after being bowled out for 94.

It is the fourth time that the former Yorkshire and Derbyshire player has made 1,000 runs in a league season and his side hold a 12-point lead over Saltaire, who have a game in hand.

Another batsman in form was the Woodlands opener Scott Richardson. He made 99 as his side were dismissed for 134 as spinner Imran Khalid took 7-29.

Woodlands hit back to bowl out Mills for 107 with Pieter Swanepoel (4-34) and Chris Brice (4-30) sealing a 27-run win.

Bradford & Bingley’s Chris Thompson also took seven wickets. He picked up 7-42 as his side pushed Baildon closer to relegation. They are 42 points adrift of third-from-bottom Hanging Heaton with Gomersal 18 points back and with just four games to go.

Baildon were dismissed for 84 in reply to Bradford & Bingley’s 163-9 which included 55 from opener Scott Etherington. Tabbi Bhatti (4-35) and Mushtaq Ahmed (4-39) were Baildon’s best bowlers.

Gareth Clough (5-32) and Steve Watts (4-13) bowled out bottom team Gomersal for 128 as Pudsey St Lawrence secured a six-wicket win. Opener Mark Robertshaw hit an unbeaten 73 to steer his side home. A third-wicket stand of 158 between Tim Jackson (98no) and Marcus Walmsley (74) set up second-placed Cleckheaton’s 120-run win at Hanging Heaton.

SOUTH YORKSHIRE: Treeton and Whitley Hall remain locked together at the top of the Premier Division, following respective victories over Houghton Main and Aston Hall.

Treeton had to overcome a tally of 233-9 set by Houghton, in which Ben Sutton struck 88 as Umaid Asif claimed 5-56 and Greg Norton (4-47).

It was the same pair who then combined to steer Treeton to 239-6, Asif making 75 and Norton adding 61.

Whitley were eight-wicket winners after holding Aston to 186-8, Alex Welsh carrying his bat for 81 and Neil Longhurst hitting 71.

Elsecar remain in third spot after containing Wath to 169-9, stalwart Steve Reynolds blasting an unbeaten 107. The Armroyd Lane men then replied with 171-4, Luke Townsend hitting an unbeaten 51 and Brett Hunsley (41).

Rockingham could only muster 139 at Barnsley, Ben Dalton making 50 and Richard Skipworth 42 but they dismissed the hosts for 133, young opener Steve Walters making 76 against the attack of Mark Wilkinson and Andy Shore.

Wickersley laid down a 195-9 challenge to hosts Bradfield, with Christi Viljoen making 51 and Mark Harrison (44). Josh Coulson bagged 5-66 for Bradfield, who were sent packing for 85.

Hallam closed on 226-9 after being given a fine start by Nick Dymock and Humphrey Emery, each with 58. Youngster Harry Bliss added 40 but it was not good enough against Wickersley, who took the points with 229-6, opener Andy Tomlinson making 79.

Darfield continued their fine season in Division One with a 10-wicket win over Collegiate B, and in the same division, Kexborough rattled up the highest team total of the day, 327-2 against Rotherham Town (145) with an unbeaten 174 from Mark Bray, with 24 fours and three sixes.

The bowler of the day was Worsbrough B’s Dave Saxon, with 8-59 in the Division Four game against Houghton B, followed by Conisbrough B’s Mark Neale, with 7-33 in the same section win over Maltby B.

SOLLY CENTRAL YORKSHIRE: Methley threw the Premier Division title race wide open by inflicting leaders Wrenthorpe’s first home defeat for two years.

Opener Nick Connolly (108no) steered Methley to 227-5 after sharing a first-wicket stand of 119 with Hamid Khan (52).

John Rickers (4-34) and Sri Lankan Hemantha Alles (2-36) limited Wrenthorpe’s reply to 153-8, which included 41 by Gary Fellows.

Defending champions Wrenthorpe are just four points ahead of New Farnley, with Methley a further three points adrift in third place.

New Farnley, who host Wrenthorpe on Saturday, stepped up their bid to lift the championship for the first time with a seven-wicket win at strugglers Wakefield St Michael’s.

Opener Richard Foster took his tally to 931 league runs this season as Wakefield Thornes beat Mirfield Parish Cavaliers by eight wickets.

Foster hit 52 off 41 balls as Thornes overhauled Mirfield’s 101 in just 15.5 overs

Scott Wightman (6-46) and Derek Colquhoun (3-34) reduced Mirfield to 16-7 before David Whitelock (31) and Bradley Drake (30) led a recovery.

Birstall boosted their chances of avoiding relegation when Connor Williams (61), Saif Rehman (5-36), Craig Wood (3-44) and Michael Kaye (2-23) guided them to a 21-run victory at Hunslet Nelson, whose defeat was hard on Derrick Hammill (7-27) and Joe Smith (37no).

Bottom side Ossett look relegation certainties after losing at Altofts.

Shoaib Latif Christi (116) guided Altofts to 286-7 and Ossett managed only 175 in reply, despite Karl Anderson’s unbeaten 47.

There was no play in the Northowram Fields-Townville match because the pitch was unfit.

Carlton retained top spot in Division One by beating promotion rivals Liversedge by four wickets.

Steve Cooper (71) shared an opening 87-run partnership with Phil Page (44) and put on 91 for the second wicket with John Cooper (40) as Carlton overhauled Liversedge’s 256-6.
