Barnsley 'want to sign' former Stoke City and Port Vale defender Will Forrester from Bolton Wanderers

Barnsley reportedly want to sign defender Will Forrester from Bolton Wanderers.

The 24-year-old is a centre-back by trade, although can also operate at right-back. He is a product of Stoke City’s academy, but left the Potters for their bitter rivals Port Vale in 2022.

After impressing at Vale Park, Forrester was lured to Bolton a year later and penned a three-year deal.

He has since made 51 appearances for the Trotters, but his time at the club could come to an end before the curtain comes down on the current season.

According to reporter Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, Barnsley want to prise the 24-year-old from their League One rivals.

The Reds are said to have targeted Forrester during the summer window, only to miss out on a deadline day deal.

However, it has been suggested Forrester is still available and could potentially be on the move in the next window.

Barnsley’s late defensive addition

Barnsley may not have landed Forrester, but they did strengthen their defence with the loan signing of Jake Rooney from Derby County on deadline day.

Reds boss Conor Hourihane said: “Jake is a fantastic addition to our squad. He’s young, hungry, and has already shown maturity beyond his years at Derby. His ability to play across the backline gives us extra options, and we’re excited to see what he can bring to our team this season.”

The club’s sporting director Mladen Sormaz added: “We’re very pleased to bring Jake to Oakwell for the season. His versatility across central defence and right back makes him a strong addition to the squad.

“To date in his career Jake has shown real resilience and professionalism, and we believe this loan is the right environment for him to continue his development while contributing to our ambitions this year.”
