Burnley make announcement regarding future of Leeds United loanee Connor Roberts

Burnley have confirmed Connor Roberts will return to the club following the conclusion of his loan spell at Leeds United.

Roberts was drafted in on loan during the dying embers of the winter window, adding some much-needed depth at right-back following the departures of Djed Spence and Luke Ayling.

However, the Wales international has not featured as much as the Elland Road faithful expected him to. He has been ruled out of four league games and when available, has only been picked to start in the Championship twice.

Burnley have published their retained list following confirmation of their relegation from the Premier League, listing the players who will be staying at Turf Moor.

A section of their statement read: “Connor Roberts, CJ Egan Riley, Anass Zaroury, Samuel Bastien, Darko Churlinov, Michael Obafemi, Owen Dodgson, Luke McNally, Scott Twine, Wout Weghorst, Michael Mellon and Dara Costelloe all return to the club after loan spells away.”

The announcement does not necessarily mean all the aforementioned players have a future at Burnley, although it now appears unlikely Roberts will be joining Leeds permanently.

Wembley, therefore, could potentially be the scene of Roberts’ Leeds swansong. Daniel Farke’s side are set to battle Southampton for a place in the Premier League on Sunday, May 26.
