Portsmouth 3 Doncaster Rovers 1: Rovers suffer Pompey defeat

Dean Saunders saw his Doncaster Rovers side beaten on the south coast at Portsmouth in the Championship.

Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Luke Varney scored twice to secure victory to condemn Championship strugglers Doncaster to a third straight defeat.

Varney opened the scoring in the third minute and made sure of the points with a quarter of an hour left after Dave Kitson had restored Pompey’s lead following an equaliser from Simon Gillett.
