A pulsating first half at the Amex saw Sheffield Wednesday retain their two-goal semi-final first leg lead despite a storming assault from Brighton.
Wednesday, 2-0 winners at Hillsborough on Friday, came under pressure from the start, but it took Brighton almost 20 minutes to get the goal their dominance deserves.
Having curled a previous free-kick against a post, Anthony Knockaert delivered left-footed from wide on the right and Lewis Dunk, coming in at the back post after Tom Lees misjudged the flight of the ball, volleyed into the net.
The hosts continued to press only for Wednesday to equalise just before the half hour mark and restore their two-goal lead in the tie.
Ross Wallace swung an intended cross over from the right and Albion centre-back Lewis Dunk appeared to be nudged by Gary Hooper, missing the ball which finished in the bottom corner of the net.
Try as they might, Brighton could not get a second to give themselves genuine hope of winning the tie, and Wednesday threatened on the break to kill them off completely.
In the end, after six minutes of stoppage time, it was the Owls fans celebrating. Now they wait to see whether it is fellow Yorkshire side Hull City or Derby County who will face them in the final on Saturday, May 28.
