Huddersfield launch probe after Alan Smith attack

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN have launched an investigation into the events of last night after former Leeds United striker Alan Smith was attacked during a post-match pitch invasion.

The MK Dons substitute was targeted by a handful of thugs as thousands of Terriers fans poured on to the field to celebrate their club reaching the League One play-off final at Wembley.

In today’s Yorkshire Post, Dons manager Karl Robinson admitted to fearing for Smith’s safety before adding: “Alan was spat at, punched and kicked, the lot.”

Town have now opened a review in conjunction with the relevant authorities and chairman Dean Hoyle said: “It is upsetting that the tremendous achievement in reaching the final has been tarnished. It goes without saying we will look very closely at what occurred.

“I am not going to prejudice the outcome but, as chairman, I unequivocally condemn the actions of any so-called supporter who engages in any form of anti-social or violent behaviour. Whether it is on a major occasion like last night or not, there is no place for them being connected with our club in any way, shape or form. We have imposed life bans before and if required we will do so again.

“The real Huddersfield Town supporters made the difference and I would like to thank them for their tremendous backing on a night to remember.”
