Huddersfield Town forward Alfie May 'set' for surprise Doncaster Rovers return as 'deal agreed'
Huddersfield Town forward Alfie May reportedly on his way back to Doncaster Rovers
Huddersfield Town forward Alfie May is reportedly set for a surprise return to his former club Doncaster Rovers.
The 32-year-old was a marquee signing for the Terriers last summer, joining for an undisclosed fee after playing a key role in Birmingham City’s League One title-winning campaign.
He returned seven goals across 40 appearances in his maiden Huddersfield term as the West Yorkshire club fell short of pre-season expectations and finished ninth.

Alfie May ‘set’ for Doncaster Rovers return
May now looks set to depart, with Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke having claimed a return to Doncaster is on the cards.
Posting on X, O’Rourke said: “Understand Alfie May has agreed a deal to leave Huddersfield Town and is set to rejoin former club Doncaster Rovers.”
The frontman represented Rovers between 2017 and 2020, scoring 23 goals in 116 appearances after being plucked from non-league obscurity.
He was signed during Darren Ferguson’s Doncaster reign but later worked under current boss Grant McCann when the Northern Irishman enjoyed his first stint at the Eco-Power Stadium.
May could potentially add some much-needed firepower and experienced to the Doncaster frontline following the depature of veteran marksman Billy Sharp.

Alfie May’s profile
He may not have flourished at Huddersfield, but the forward’s goal record at League One level is undeniably impressive.
When May joined the Terriers last summer, then-Huddersfield manager Lee Grant said: “Alfie is a natural goalscorer with a formidable record in recent years, so we’re really pleased to bring him into the group ahead of the new season kicking off.

“He has a strong mentality, an infectious personality and is full of belief, and those are the hallmarks of all successful strikers. His skillset is different to what we already have in the squad and he compliments the players that he’ll be featuring alongside well, so we look forward to having the opportunity to get straight down to work with him this week.
“Alfie is another player we’ve introduced to the squad this summer that knows what’s required to be successful at the right end of this division, and that experience will be invaluable across the course of the season.”
