Lincoln City hand trial to ex-Rotherham United winger Mickel Miller after Huddersfield Town release

Mickel Miller has secured a trial at a Championship club after being released by Huddersfield Town

Mickel Miller has been handed an opportunity to jump up to the Championship after being released by League One outfit Huddersfield Town.

The 30-year-old, a winger by trade who can also play as a wing-back, made 37 appearances across an injury-plagued two years with the Terriers.

He was released at the end of the 2025/26 campaign despite having impressed in the third tier when fit.

Mickel Miller lands Championship trial after Huddersfield Town exit

Miller has been on the free agent market ever since, although has now been handed a trial by Lincoln City.

The versatile wideman has been named in their starting XI for a friendly meeting with Doncaster Rovers, and the club’s website has confirmed he is a trialist.

Max Clark, Matt Smith, Evan Khouri, Marvin Johnson and Fejiri Okenabirhie are also being assessed by the Imps, who won the League One title last term. 30-year-old forward Okenabirhie is back in familiar territory having represented Doncaster between 2020 and 2022.

If Miller can stay fit, he would arguably be a sensible addition to the Lincoln ranks. He previously played at Championship level for Rotherham United, who signed him from Hamilton Academical in 2020.

‘A handful’

When Huddersfield recruited the London-born man, then-Terriers boss Michael Duff said: “Having coached against Mickel in the past, I know what a handful he can be going forward, but his diligence defensively is something that I find really impressive, too.

"Introducing players right at the start of pre-season gives the squad a real sense of refreshment and excitement, increasing competition for places and intensity in training right from the off. Having already enjoyed our sessions out on the grass, Mickel will again help raise that level.”
