Huddersfield Town v Doncaster Rovers: Why visitors will not require a team talk on two counts

Huddersfield Town v Doncaster Rovers DONCASTER Rovers’ league trip to the Accu Stadium in early season was one of the most unfathomable games that you could wish to see in all honesty.

Grant McCann’s side were outstanding in the first half at Huddersfield Town and gave the hosts a bit of a footballing lesson.

The bottom line was that, for all their dominance, Rovers didn’t score.

With an embarrassment of riches in their squad, Town made the most of the options at their disposal and it proved telling as two goals in the final quarter won them the game.

Events from that late summer night, combined with those on Saturday when Doncaster were thumped at Wycombe Wanderers in a performance when they were way off it should mean that McCann will not need to deliver too much of a team talk.

It’s the first game in a run of three successive Yorkshire derbies. Rovers host Town in the league next Tuesday and then visit Rotherham United on Saturday week.

They have not won a match in Rotherham in 14 attempts since March 1985.

On that earlier derby in Huddersfield, McCann said: “It was a hard luck story and we were really good. It's probably the best we've played. In the first half, we were outstanding at Huddersfield.

"That's probably been a theme in the first half of the season - where we were really good, but got beaten.

"We've got to get a bit of a better happy medium. It will be a tough game as the new manager has come in and done really well.

"Bringing players in for a million quid; things like that in League One - this is what makes it tough."
