After Alves put pen to paper at the Accu Stadium, then-Terriers boss Lee Grant said: “Will is a gifted young attacking player with heaps of potential, and his desire to improve, be involved and impact games could not have been more evident in the conversations we’ve enjoyed before finalising this move.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with him alongside our coaches to help harness and unlock more of that ability within games.”

He endured an injury-plagued season in West Yorkshire and ended the campaign having made just 15 appearanced for the Terriers.

Will Alves’ loan admission

Alves is now back at Leicester, who were relegated to League One in his absence, and looking to get firing again.

He told the Leicester Mercury: “I'm happy to be back playing now. That's what I want to do (score goals and assists). I feel like I could have done more in my career. I want to create goals for my teammates and score more myself.

"Last season was a bit disappointing for myself, getting injured again and never really picking up playing the way I feel like I can play. Hopefully this season can be better."

‘Big season’ ahead

His former Leicester teammate Marc Albrighton, meanwhile, has insisted he is “rooting” for Alves to succeed in the Foxes first team.

He told the same outlet: “The standout one is Will Alves. For me, I’ve trained and worked with him before and he had so much promise coming through at a very young age.

"He had a horrible injury that set him back but he’s gone out and got some experience out on loan, he could be a player that should be looking at this season and be excited by it. It’s a big season for him. He’s such a good kid so I’m rooting for him."
