Hull City 'agree' fee to sign ex-Huddersfield Town star Sorba Thomas from Stoke City - but obstacle remains

There looks to have been a development in Hull City’s pursuit of Stoke City winger Sorba Thomas

Hull City have reportedly agreed a fee for Sorba Thomas with Stoke City - but could yet see their hopes of signing him dashed.

The 27-year-old was among the most dangerous attacking outlets in the Championship last term, weighing in with 10 goals and 13 assists across 45 outings.

He has been strongly linked with the Tigers, who can offer Premier League football following their promotion via the Championship play-offs.

Hull City’s pursuit of Sorba Thomas latest

According to Sky Sports, Hull have reached an agreement with Stoke regarding Thomas’ asking price.

They are said to have settled on a guaranteed fee of £7m that could rise to £10m with add-ons.

However, Stoke are thought to be unwilling to let Thomas depart until a suitable replacement is secured. The Potters do not have much time to get someone through the door, with the window due to close at 11pm tomorrow (September 1).

There has been talk of Liam Millar heading in the opposite direction but the report has suggested he has a number of options.

One of those options is believed to be a stay at Hull, which does not look particularly unlikely given he scored the winner in their 1-0 victory over Coventry City at the weekend.

Sorba Thomas’ career path

Thomas is no stranger to Yorkshire having represented Huddersfield Town between 2021 and 2025. He was plucked from non-league obscurity when the Terriers lured him from Boreham Wood and has since established himself in the EFL.

He made 125 appearances for Huddersfield and had loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and Nantes before heading to Stoke in the last summer window.

When he departed for the Potters, then-Huddersfield boss Lee Grant said: “Stoke City have presented the club with a generous offer for Sorba’s services and the player has shown a desire to pursue that opportunity, so it’s a deal that works for all concerned. I wish him nothing but the best with his new side.”
