Ipswich Town make 'preliminary move' to sign Leeds United and Hull City-linked Nick Pope from Newcastle United

A move to sign a Leeds United and Hull City-linked goalkeeper has reportedly been made

Ipswich Town have reportedly made a move to sign Leeds United and Hull City-linked goalkeeper Nick Pope.

The 34-year-old faces an uncertain future at Newcastle United following the arrival of Ewen Jaouen from Reims.

Not only have the Magpies signed the France Under-21s stopper, they continue to be linked with Manchester City’s James Trafford.

A move looks to be on the cards for Pope and both Leeds and Hull have been credited with interest in signing the England-capped veteran.

Nick Pope ‘move’ made

However, according to Football Insider, Ipswich have made a preliminary move to secure Pope’s signature.

A move to Portman Road would hold an emotional appeal to Pope, who is Tractor Boys fan and cut his teeth within the club’s academy. He would also add a wealth of experience to a squad newly-promoted from the Championship.

It is unclear how firmly he sits on the radars of Leeds and Hull, who are both being linked with various goalkeepers.

Recently, there has been talk of Leeds interest in Parma’s Zion Suzuki and Hull interest in Braga's Lukas Hornicek. Leeds have also been linked with the latter, who is a senior Czech Republic international.

Hull recently sanctioned the departure of Ivor Pandur, who has linked up with Scottish giants Rangers. The Scottish giants have sent Jack Butland in the opposite direction, although the Tigers still look likely to get another goalkeeper in before the transfer window closes.

Newcastle United man in demand

He said: “Leeds are favourites [to sign Pope], but I think they're going to have to sell [Lucas] Perri, who hasn't been a great success as well.

“He might go something around £10m or £12m. If they can get that, it would be a good deal for them, and I think Pope would be the one to come in.

“There is interest for Ipswich, and that's close, but I do expect him to end up at Leeds. I think that would be a good one for Leeds to get him in there. To me, that would be a strengthening in the position.”
