Leeds United told why Joe Gelhardt is flourishing at Hull City by pundit Don Goodman
Joe Gelhardt could not force his way into Daniel Farke’s Leeds United side - but is flourishing on loan at Hull City.
When Leeds were relegated from the Premier League in 2023, many fans may well have believed Gelhardt was set to return to prominence.
He had been blooded by Marcelo Bielsa and showed promise, but was unable to kick on and found himself out on loan at Sunderland during the reign of Jesse Marsch.
Relegation did not yield the opportunities the versatile attacker hoped for, with Whites boss Farke preferring alternative options in the final third.
However, Gelhardt is now thriving in his second loan spell at Hull. Since returning to the MKM Stadium in the summer, he has registered seven goals and three assists in 16 appearances.

Pundit’s view
In an interview with Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has laid out why ‘Joffy’ is thriving as a Tiger.
He said: "It's brilliant news for Joe Gelhardt and Hull City. I've just read an interview where Joe has gone on record saying how happy he is at Hull.
"He's happy because he's playing in a system that suits him, in a team playing to his strengths, he's playing week-in, week-out, and the numbers do, literally, speak for themselves.
"Five goals in the past six games, a couple of assists as well. Finally, that potential we all thought he had, is just starting to come to fruition on a bit more of a consistent basis.
“And, if you're Leeds United, the better he does at Hull, the more money you're going to get for him. It's a win-win all-round, I would say.”

Joe Gelhardt’s future
Gelhardt is under contract at Leeds until 2027 and a return to Elland Road has not been completely ruled out.
However, Hull boss Sergej Jakirović has already conceded he wants the Tigers to tie Gelhardt down to a permanent deal.
