Leeds United and Hull City’s Premier League rivals look set to lose their head coach

Leeds United and Hull City’s Premier League rivals Newcastle United are reportedly set to lose their head coach Eddie Howe.

The Magpies are deep in their pre-season preparations, with the beginning of a new Premier League season just around the corner.

Managers do not tend to depart at this stage of the summer, but Howe appears to be on the verge of leaving in a shock development.

Eddie Howe ‘set’ for Newcastle United departure

According to The Athletic, Howe has informed Newcastle of his decision to take a break from management.

Both parties had initially decided they would continue their relationship, the report has claimed, but Howe has seemingly had a change of heart.

The 48-year-old took charge of Newcastle back in 2021, when he succeeded Steve Bruce at the St James’ Park helm. He was the first appointment made by the Public Investment Fund upon completion of their takeover.

Howe took charge of Newcastle last night (July 29) - seemingly for the final time - and oversaw a 4-1 friendly defeat to Bristol City.

Leeds United and Hull City clashes ahead

Leeds and Hull will be keeping an eye on developments, with both Yorkshire clubs due to face Newcastle in September.

The former are set to host the Magpies under the Elland Road lights on September 14, while the latter are scheduled to visit St James’ Park five days later on September 19.

Al-Ahli boss Matthias Jaissle could be the man doing battle with Daniel Farke and Sergej Jakirovic, as the 38-year-old is reportedly being lined up as Howe’s successor.

Howe has come up against Leeds on 12 occasions during his career, getting the better of the Whites on just three ocasions. His record against Hull is considerably better, with Howe having overseen wins in four of his five meetings with the Tigers.
