'You’ve got an opening of the door' - Leeds United's Premier League opportunity outlined by Simon Jordan

Simon Jordan has assessed Leeds United’s prospects for the 2026/27 Premier League campaign

Leeds United have been told there is an “opening of the door” in the Premier League by former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan.

There is only so much reading into the table that can be done after four games, but Leeds are flying high in third place.

Daniel Farke’s side have won two and drawn two across their opening four games and issued a statement of intent by thumping Newcastle United 4-1 under the Elland Road lights on Monday (September 14).

Simon Jordan on Leeds United’s opportunity

Jordan, now a pundit for talkSPORT, believes the current state of the Premier League has opened up an opportunity for the Whites.

He said: “I think perhaps somewhere in the middle [of consolidation and Europe] is a more likely outcome, but I don’t think there’s any jeopardy of Leeds getting relegated.

“I think if they are able to keep their best players fit, then they have an opportunity to be challenging, because we have a league this year that’s got a variety of challenges amongst it. You’ve got teams competing in Europe. You’ve got Aston Villa looking not like themselves. You’ve got opportunities there.

“You’ve got a lot of the teams around, who would be perceived as being sides that are going to get inside the top six, as being a little bit at sea. You’ve got an opening of the door. Why shouldn’t Leeds walk through it?

“They (owners) clearly understand Leeds are a big, big football club and they should be punching heavy and hard.”

Praise for Leeds United and Daniel Farke

The mood around Elland Road is considerably better than it was a year ago, when Leeds made an unconvincing start to life back in the top flight.

Farke, however, has managed to put the West Yorkshire outfit on a stronger footing in the Premier League.

Jordan said: “I thought Leeds were going to do well. I think they might be an outside bet to do something quite significant like get into Europe this season.

“They’ve stayed with their manager - and rightly so. All the noise that was coming about last year was based upon his previous scenarios at Norwich where he was given no support, ‘is he another manager that goes up and potentially is going to find the level too big for him? He’s done it previously and it’s too big for him’.

“Now you’ve got a team that’s together. You saw it when he pivoted. He pivoted around about October/November, decided to change the way they played and set them up differently.

“[They] made themselves difficult to beat. They’re a great club. They’re a big club. I think he’s been given support.”
