'Show what I can do' - Leeds United's Sean Longstaff pleased with pre-season progress after goal vs Liverpool
Sean Longstaff has reflected on pre-season progress with Leeds United after scoring against Liverpool
Sean Longstaff has insisted Leeds United can be “nothing but happy” after their comeback friendly win over Liverpool.
In the final game of the club’s USA tour, Leeds overturned a two-goal deficit to claim a 4-2 win over Premier League rivals Liverpool in Chicago last night (August 2).
Brenden Aaronson put Leeds back in the contest before a Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal levelled proceedings. Longstaff fired the Whites into the lead and Calvert-Lewin extended the lead with his second of the game late on.
Longstaff’s goal was his second across the pond after his impressive effort in the 3-2 loss to Wrexham in Florida.

Sean Longstaff on pre-season progress
He was a bit-part player after recovering from a calf injury in his maiden Leeds campaign, but has been content with his summer progress.
The 28-year-old told LUTV: “On the pitch, I try make the most of it and show what I can do, just trying to enjoy it as much as I can. It seems to be going okay at the minute so hopefully that continues.
“First half still had good bits but obviously probably the key moments went to them. Then the second half, yeah, I think the ones who came on had nothing really to lose, just try to be as positive as possible.
“You can be nothing but happy. We took advantage of some set pieces and ultimately took the chances when they came.
“I think we had chances in the first half, that goalie made a couple of good saves and we put a couple wide, and then in the second half they just seemed to go in.”

Leeds United’s use of long throws
Two of Leeds’ goals at Soldier Field came following long throws hurled into the mixer by captain Ethan Ampadu.
Longstaff expects the Whites to again utilise Ampadu’s skill to create attacking opportunities when the new Premier League season rolls around.
He said: “I think last year it was a massive part of a game, and, yeah, it seems to be getting harder and harder to score from open play in the Premier League.
“So, I think for every team they will be a massive sort of chance to score a goal and we are no different. We took advantage of it really well last year, and something we want to improve upon again going into this season.”
