Daniel Farke finds fault with one of Leeds United's 'best performances of the last 12 months'

Daniel Farke watched his Leeds United side put in "one of the best performances of the last 12 months" – and still found something to moan about.

The Whites thrashed Newcastle United 4-1, with their first three goals coming before half-time, but Farke was irritated by the 90th-minute goal from Bazzoumana Toure's late goal to muddy their clean sheet.

"There's always something to moan about in each of the games, even today you will find a few things that were unnecessary," reflected Farke. "We had a loss of the ball in the first half (by Ao Tanaka) that nearly caused trouble, an unnecessary goal that we conceded.

"So there's never a perfect performance in football, but overall I would also say it was a top-class performance more or less during the whole game

"We dominated the first half, we deserved to be 3-0 in lead. I think it was important to start on the front foot in the second half and to bury the game in the fourth goal (scored by Noah Okafor).

"We had chances for more, even in the first half with Dominic (Calvert-Lewin), or later on with Anton Stach in the second half, Daniel James, Tarik Muharemovic. There were chances for more goals, but it was also the third game was in eight or nine days and it was also important to have good game management in the second half.

"We would have preferred a bit more possession in the last few minutes and of course a goal was avoidable but we opened the centre.

"My team would have deserved a clean sheet after this performance.

"But overall it was a pretty complex and all-round performance and the boys deserve lots of praise."

Newcastle had played brilliantly in the first half of the previous two matches, but only gone in 1-0 each time. They failed to beat either Brighton and Hove Albion (1-1) or Chelsea (3-6).

This time, though, Jayden Bogle and Dominic Calvert-Lewin added to Tanaka's opening goal.

Farke called it "very important."

He expanded: "Even today we started so strong in the first 15 minutes but didn't reward ourselves and then they had also five or six minutes when they put a bit of pressure on us and that's what a good side does.

"You have to take advantage of the good players in your game and when there is a chance to break their will and to strengthen your position further on and it was crucial today not just to go 1-0 up at half-time like in Brighton where it was also possible to bury the game already.

"We nearly buried it but not just the 3-0 at half-time but also how we started the second half that we wanted to go for the fourth goal.

"I think this was also key and we showed this maturity and for that I'm very pleased.

"I was just aware that the boys were on it because we had an unbeaten start in the league and have played so, so well and wanted to extend this unbeaten start (to the Premier League season).

"Obviously we had the chance to win the first home game (this season) and to get already to eight points and you could feel that everyone was really on it.

"But even in the training weeks before they were on it otherwise we wouldn't have away wins at Nottingham (Forest) or something like this.

"So I wouldn't say there was an extra edge but performance-wise you have to give credit to them.

"It was one of the best performances I think over the last 12 months."
