DANNY SCHOFIELD has spoken glowingly about Huddersfield Town head coaching target Carlos Corberan - who he believes is a figure who players and fellow coaches can learn plenty from.

The Terriers are closing in on a move for the Leeds United under-23 coach Corberan to become their new head coach, with a compensation package having reportedly been agreed between United chairman Andrea Radrizzani and his Terriers counterpart Phil Hodgkinson to enable the Spaniard to head to Huddersfield.

Academy coach Schofield, who will take caretaker charge of Huddersfield for their final game of the Championship season at former club Millwall on Wednesday night, previously worked with Leeds under-23s as a professional development phase coach alongside Corberan.

Questioned on Corberan, he said: "Leeds have historically developed a lot of players in their club and Carlos has done that and he has worked with young players and developed them and a lot of them have made their debuts this season.

"He is someone with vast experience and a coach with good knowledge who studies the game quite a lot. A lot of other coaches can learn from him.

"The journey he has been on in coaching can bring vast experience to a club. Like any typical manager he is a strong character and has a good idea of how he wants to play and his certain methods and will instil some ideas to create an identity."

Meanwhile, Schofield has professed to being surprised at the sacking of Danny Cowley on Sunday, with the former Town midfielder having had a 'whirlwind last few days' since.

The 40-year-old said: "I think everyone was quite surprised. I found out on the Sunday and it was very, very sudden and things changed very quickly after that.

"It has been a very whirlwind last few days and very unexpected. I got the phone call to go and speak with the owner and sporting director and agreed to take the last two sessions and last game against Millwall."
