Morgan Whittaker has issued a farewell message following completion of his move from Middlesbrough to Colorado Rapids.

Middlesbrough winger moves on

The winger has joined Major League Soccer outfit Colorado Rapids for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal containing a 12-month extension option in the club’s favour.

Bidding farewell to Boro via Instagram, Whittaker said: “I would like to offer my special thanks to everyone at Middlesbrough Football Club. To the coach and his staff, my teammates, and of course, to the supporters.

“We have shared some great moments, and I wish you all success in the future. Now it’s time for a new start and a new country. I can’t wait to get started with the Colorado Rapids who have put their faith in me. I’m really looking forward to building something memorable here in the MLS. Thank you for everything. Morgan.”

Colorado Rapids boss welcomes Morgan Whittaker

He will be working with a compatriot across the pond, with London-born Matt Wells in charge of the Rapids.

Wells said: “Morgan is a player that is going to bolster our attack immensely this season and for years to come.

“His playing style is exactly what I look for in an attacker, and he has that individual magic that will help elevate us to the next level. His outputs speak for themselves in an incredibly competitive league such as the EFL Championship.

“He’s a player I know well from my time in England, and understanding how in demand he is, it speaks volumes about our project here that we’ve managed to secure his signature. This is a player who is going to be a foundational piece for this club, and the supporters will be able to see that as soon as he steps onto the pitch in a Rapids shirt.”

Middlesbrough did move to recruit a winger on deadline day in anticipation of an exit for Whittaker, landing Amario Cozier-Duberry on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
