Middlesbrough FC and Derby County 'on alert' as Sheffield United run rule over ex-Rangers man Rabbi Matondo
Middlesbrough and Derby County have been linked with a Sheffield United trialist
Middlesbrough and Derby County have been credited with interest in Sheffield United trialist Rabbi Matondo.
The winger has been out in Spain with Sheffield United, taking part in their pre-season preparations and trying to win a contract. Matondo is now back in England and still training with the Blades.
He only swapped Scottish giants Rangers for Norweigan outfit Brann in March, but a move back to British shores appears to be in his sights.

It remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old will put pen to paper at Bramall Lane, but he may have other Championship options if he does not sign.
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Middlesbrough and Derby are among the clubs who have been alerted to his potential availabilty.
Posting on X, he said: “Derby and Middlesbrough are among a number of Championship clubs on alert for Wales international Rabbi Matondo after rejecting the opportunity to extend his time with Norwegian club SK Brann.”
Rabbi Matondo’s career path
Matondo was once an £11m signing for German outfit Schalke 04, who prised the wideman from Manchester City in 2019.
It did not work out for Matondo in the Bundesliga and he left in 2022 after loan spells at Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.

He moved to Scotland with Rangers, registering eight goals and 11 assists in 70 appearances before departing earlier this year.
Matondo was linked with a move to the blue side of the Steel City back in January 2025, when he was being teed up for a loan move away from Rangers.
A switch to Sheffield Wednesday did not materialise and he instead sealed a temporary switch to Hannover 96.
Matondo’s craeer has not panned out as many expected, but the jet-heeled winger has time on his side at 25.
