Sheffield United credited with interest in former Rangers and Stoke City winger Rabbi Matondo

Sheffield United are reportedly considering a move for a former Rangers winger

Sheffield United are reportedly weighing up a potential move for Wales-capped winger Rabbi Matondo.

A product of Cardiff City and Manchester City’s youth systems, Matondo was tipped for a bright future at the elite level during his teenage years.

He represented England at youth level, later switching his international allegiance to Wales and making a senior breakthrough with the Dragons.

Matondo was unable to fulfil his potential during spells with Schalke 04 and Rangers, and joined Norweigan outfit Brann in March.

Sheffield United linked with winger

However, according to Norweigan outlet Bergensavisen, Matondo could be set to leave Brann after just three appearances.

Sheffield United are said to be considering a move for the tricky wideman, although it is unclear whether they would be exploring a loan arrangement or a permanent move.

Matondo was linked with a move to the Steel City back in January 2025, when Sheffield Wednesday were reported to be interested in securing his signature.

Schalke paid a reported £11m to sign Matondo from Manchester City in January 2019, a clear example of the potential he had shown at youth level.

His career has not panned out in the way many expected, but time is very much on the side of the 25-year-old. He is also no stranger to the Championship having spent time on loan at Stoke City in 2021.

Sheffield United’s winger business

Sheffield United have lost one winger and recruited another this summer, losing Andre Brooks to Norwich City and loaning Romelle Donovan in from Brentford.

After securing Donovan’s signature, Blades manager Chris Wilder said: “He's an exciting player with a bright future and we're delighted to have been entrusted with the next stage of his development.

“We've tracked him for a while, and he arrives with the added endorsement from the likes of Keith Andrews and Jack Lester who are two individuals we know and respect from their time working here.

“They obviously rate him highly because they've utilised him in the Premier League last season, so that's testament to his ability and potential. This is a great opportunity and having spoken with the lad I know he's keen to take it with both hands."
