'Exciting season ahead' - Sheffield United's Sydie Peck outlines hope amid West Ham transfer talk
Sheffield United’s Sydie Peck has shared his pre-season hope amid doubts over his future
Sheffield United star Sydie Peck has expressed his hope for an “exciting season” amid doubts over his future at Bramall Lane.
The 21-year-old has become a crucial cog in the Blades machine, featuring regularly in the heart of Chris Wilder’s midfield. Peck has made a total of 89 appearances for the club at senior level, registering five goals and eight assists.
His exploits have won him caps for England at under-21 level - and fuelled talk of interest from elsewhere. Premier League outfit Brentford have been linked with the London-born midfielder, as have Sheffield United’s new Championship rivals West Ham United.
Sydie Peck’s pre-season hope
Peck returned to action at the weekend, featuring for the Blades in a goalless friendly draw away at Chesterfield. Post-match, he outlined his desire to “kick on” alongside his teammates.
He told Sheffield United’s YouTube channel: “Yes, it was good. Minutes in the legs after quite a while off. Obviously, I was back in a little bit later. I have had a full week’s training under my belt, so I was looking forward to the minutes today.
“I am glad I got them, and hopefully myself and the boys can kick on for an exciting season ahead.”
Sheffield United’s summer
Sheffield United will be keen to retain Peck, who has developed at pace under the tutelage of Wilder.
However, with the South Yorkshire club in a daunting post-parachute payments era, difficult decisions may have to be made.
Sheffield United have already parted with winger Andre Brooks, who has completed a permanent move to their league rivals Norwich City.
On the incomings front, Sheffield United have signed wideman Romelle Donovan on loan from Brentford. He has made nine senior appearances for the Bees since being lured from Birmingham City last year.
