MIDDLESBROUGH HEAD coach Aitor Karanka has confirmed the club are considering taking action over an incident in which Sheffield Wednesday captain Jose Semedo is alleged to have spat at Grant Leadbitter.

The Owls skipper provoked an angry reaction from his Boro counterpart following a clash between both players in the 64th minute.

Leadbitter was seen to complain to referee Stephen Martin who soon after, showed yellow cards to Semedo and Lee Tomlin following a separate incident.

Neither Karanka or Owls head coach Stuart Gray would comment on the incident after the game and it is unknown whether Martin included the incident in his report.

Karanka said: “We are going to work (on it) but I prefer not to say anything because I don’t know what the steps are here and can’t say one thing because maybe I make a mistake.

“Grant and the club are working and let’s see, but I prefer not to say anything.”

While Karanka would not speak about the incident directly, he did say that Leadbitter is not the sort of player to complain about something which did not happen.

Karanka added: “Grant, I know him, he is a very good lad, a very good player, a very good character and if he did something like that (reacted) it is because something has happened, but I can’t say what happened because I don’t know.

“He is a strong character, but he doesn’t do anything if he does not receive anything bad.”
