Portsmouth land former Newcastle United and AFC Bournemouth winger despite Sheffield United links
The 34-year-old joined the free agent market at the end of the season, when Newcastle brought the curtain down on his eight-year association with the Magpies.
He was linked with a move to Bramall Lane, with Sheffield United reported to have tabled an offer to the seasoned wideman. However, he has instead sealed a return to one of his former clubs in newly-promoted Pompey.

I’m really excited for the challenge we’ve got, but also excited for the personal challenge and I’m delighted that I’m back. This club has always held a special place in my heart.”
Ritchie started his career at Fratton Park, although failed to establish himself as a first-team regular. He moved to Swindon Town in 2011, a switch that marked the beginning of an upward trajectory.
Moves to AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle followed and the former Scotland international has two Championship titles on his CV.
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho said: “Everyone will know what Matt is all about because he’s had a fantastic Premier League career. I’m sure all the fans have tracked his incredible progress since he was last at the club and been pleased by what he’s achieved.

"It’s one of those signings that will provide a real boost around the place because he’s a fantastic player and in very good physical condition. We’re very excited to have him here.”
