The 24-year-old, who blazed a trail netting 26 goals in the club’s promotion to the Championship last term, had been in talks with club bosses regarding an improved contract with his current deal expiring next summer.

Agard, understood not to be among the higher earners at the New York Stadium, has now turned down a fresh offer from the Millers and is understood to be disappointed and surprised by the club’s valuation of him.

It remains to be seen if the club table an improved offer, but despite rebuffing the deal, Agard remains focused on the season ahead and is back in training with his team-mates, making preparations for the forthcoming campaign.

Several Championship clubs are believed to have monitoring developments regarding Agard, named as the Sky Bet Player of the Month for April, a month which saw him fire five goals, including a hat-trick in the Millers’ 6-4 loss at Wolverhampton.

Millwall had been linked with a move for the London-born forward earlier this summer, but is now appears their interest has ended.
