Sam Nombe transfer latest: Rotherham United manager bullish over star striker

Rotherham United manager Matt Hamshaw is adamant star striker Sam Nombe is going nowhere in January.

The £1m signing from Exeter two-and-a-half years ago has scored six goals for a struggling Millers side in a stop-start season, so is understandably on a number of radars higher up the pecking order.

Reports emerged this week that Bolton Wanderers, fighting at the top end of League One, have lodged a £2m bid for the 27-year-old.

But speaking after Rotherham beat Northampton Town on Tuesday night to end an 11-game winless run in the league, Hamshaw was bullish that Nombe would not be sold before the window is closed on Monday at 7pm.

“Sam Nombe is key to everything we do,” insisted Hamshaw. “If he gets sold, it won’t happen. We’re sat here now, we’re content Sam is playing.

“He knows the situation, we’ve had a number of chats, he knows what the plan is and Sam needs to be a part of everything we’re doing from now until the end of the season.

“He’ll be disappointed he hasn’t scored the last two games because that’s the bar he’s raised but I’m sure he’ll not be looking away.”
