Gustavo Hamer interest 'renewed' by top-flight club amid uncertainty over Sheffield United star's future

Interest in Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer has reportedly been renewed

Turkish giants Trabzonspor have reportedly renewed their interest in Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer.

The 28-year-old has spent much of his time at Bramall Lane at the centre of transfer speculation, only for none of the mooted moves to materialise.

He stayed put last summer and in January, finishing the 2025/26 season in South Yorkshire with a tally of five goals and 13 assists.

Sheffield United finished in the bottom half of the Championship table and their struggle has fuelled talk of a move for Hamer - as has the need for belt-tightening at Bramall Lane.

Gustavo Hamer interest ‘renewed’

According to Turkish outlet Aspor, Trabzonspor are back on Hamer’s trail ahead of the summer transfer window.

It has been suggested the midfielder could be available for 16m (£13.8m) and that final sign-off on a swoop will be required by Trabzonspor head coach Fatih Tekke.

The report of potential interest from Turkey may put the likes of Leeds United and West Ham United on alert, as both have previously been linked with the former Netherlands youth international.

Reports have indicated Hamer could still pen a new contract at Sheffield United but if fresh terms are not agreed, an exit will look inevitable.

He is due to be out of contract in the summer of 2027 and it would be a major blow for the Blades if they lost such a key player on a free transfer.

Chris Wilder on Gustavo Hamer

After Sheffield United’s season finale away at Derby County earlier this month, Blades boss Chris Wilder said: “He shouldn't have played today. He rolled his ankle on Thursday and didn't train yesterday (Friday). He wanted to play today. His attitude has been spot on.

“I said to him when he was coming off: ‘If this your last game, I really appreciate your efforts over the last 18 months for myself and the football club. I'd love to work with you again but I understand'.

“If he stays, then great. And if he doesn't, then he has the recognition he deserves for his efforts. Supporters don't get it wrong and their reaction to him at the end tells the story."
