Sheffield United, Stoke City and Derby County see Ben Brereton Diaz offers 'accepted' by Southampton

Sheffield United are said to be among the clubs who have had a loan offer accepted by Southampton

Sheffield United have reportedly seen a loan offer for Ben Brereton Diaz accepted by Southampton.

The 27-year-old is no stranger to the Bramall Lane faithful having had two loan spells at Bramall Lane.

He was borrowed by the Blades in January 2024 while on Villareal’s books, and then drafted in from Southampton a year later.

A versatile attacker, Brereton Diaz proved popular in South Yorkshire and scored 10 goals in 34 appearances across his two spells.

Sheffield United loan offer ‘accepted’

According to Sky Sports, Sheffield United have tabled a loan offer for the Chile international that has been accepted.

However, Southampton are also said to have green lit loan switches to fellow Championship outfits Derby County and Stoke City.

Brereton Diaz is also familiar with Derby, having spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Pride Park, and spent time in Stoke’s academy as a teenager.

He is now said to be weighing up his options with his opportunities likely to be limited at St Mary’s this season.

Sheffield United looking to strengthen

The need for Sheffield United to sharpen up their attack has been made abundantly clear in the early stages of the campaign, with Chris Wilder’s side having played out goalless draws with Birmingham City and Swansea City.

Not only is Brereton Diaz an experienced operator at Championship level, the former Blackburn Rovers frontman is well-acquainted with Wilder’s footballing philosophy.

After making his second move to Bramall Lane in January 2025, the Brereton Diaz said: “The atmosphere last year was tough at times, but I still enjoyed my football and loved every minute of my time at the club, the fans were brilliant, it is a real family club and there is a connection now which is important. No other club was an option for me.

“Coming back to Sheffield United this time I know I will enjoy it more than the first time, the lads have done unbelievably well and I'm just here to hopefully help the team achieve the goal of promotion.”
