The Blades are now three points adrift of the play-off places.

Blades boss Nigel Adkins said: “There are no easy games in this division but we are Sheffield United and we are expected to go and beat Crewe Alexandra who before the game sit at the bottom of the divsion.

“We started the game very brightly and could have scored several goals but the fact of the matter is we didn’t.

“I thought there was some good stuff out there but we got beat.

“We’ve got to go again.”
