Sheffield United 2 Stevenage 2: Blades’ fightback falls just short

SHEFFIELD United have surrended their advantage in the battle for automatic promotion with Sheffield Wednesday after managing only a draw with play-off chasers Stevenage.

With the Owls moving into second spot after an away victory at Brentford, the Blades desperately needed three points to stay ahead going into the final weekend of the season.

However Joel Byrom and Scott Laird put the visitors two goals ahead before Blades substitute Richard Cresswell and defender Matt Lowton rescued a point in a brave second half revival.

Lowton equalised in the 85th minute to set up a nail biting finale but Stevenage held on for a point under some intense pressure.

Today’s results mean the Owls have a one point advantage with one game to go.
