Sheffield Wednesday part with Henrik Pedersen after loss to Doncaster Rovers as caretaker boss confirmed

Henrik Pedersen’s reign as Sheffield Wednesday manager has officially come to an end

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the departure of manager Henrik Pedersen.

The 48-year-old took the reins at Hillsborough in the summer of 2025 having previously served as part of Danny Rohl’s coaching team in S6.

He could do little to save a troubled Owls from relegation to League One last term, although their start to life in the third tier has been somewhat underwhelming.

Wednesday were beaten 2-0 by Doncaster Rovers yesterday (October 24) and there were calls for Pedersen to be axed coming from the travelling Owls fans.

The Dane has now departed with Wednesday occupying eighth place in the League One table. First-team affairs will be temporarily overseen by former Rotherham United boss Matt Hamshaw.

Simon Wilson on Henrik Pedersen exit

Wednesday’s sporting director Simon Wilson said: “First and foremost, I want to thank Henrik for his professionalism, commitment and contribution during an exceptionally challenging period for Sheffield Wednesday.

“We knew the start of this season would be difficult due to the scale of change across the club, but our expectation was always that we would develop as the season progressed, establishing a recognisable style of play and greater consistency in our performances.

“Although we have accumulated points, we haven’t seen enough progress in those areas. We believe making a change now gives us the best opportunity to establish those foundations and build towards the second half of the season and beyond.

“We remain ambitious about what we can achieve this campaign, and our focus remains on building a Sheffield Wednesday team with a clear identity, capable of delivering sustained improvement and long-term success.”

Wednesday’s post-Pedersen era will begin on Tuesday (October 27), when Cambridge United make the journey to South Yorkshire.
