Sheffield Wednesday 'interested' in Hull City's ex-Chelsea forward Mason Burstow after Bolton Wanderers spell

Sheffield Wednesday have been credited with interest in a Hull City fringe player

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly interested in bolstering their attack with the addition of Mason Burstow from Hull City.

The 22-year-old arrived at the MKM Stadium two years ago having found first-team opportunities limited at Chelsea.

He has since managed two goals in 32 outings for the Tigers and spent last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers. Burstow delivered a 12-goal haul for the Trotters, playing a key role in their promotion via the League One play-offs.

According to The Star, Burstow has attracted interest from newly-relegated League One outfit Wednesday.

Hull were promoted to the Premier League while Burstow was out on loan at Bolton, which is likely to make it harder for the frontman to pick up minutes under Sergej Jakirovic.

Wednesday are believed to have made some form of contact with Hull regarding a potential deal, with Owls boss Henrik Pedersen looking to strengthen his attack.

Mason Burstow’s profile

Burstow is a product of the Charlton Athletic academy and was lured from The Valley by Chelsea in 2022. He had a loan spell back at Charlton and then moved on to Sunderland, but neither of his temporary moves away from Stamford Bridge proved particularly productive.

Hull forked out an undisclosed fee to sign Burstow in the summer of 2024, handing the former England youth international a four-year contract.

Describing his style after joining the Tigers, Burstow said: “I play through the middle and always try to be a threat in the box. I can link play, hold it up and run in behind. Hopefully, there are different avenues the manager can use me.”

When he was borrowed by Bolton last summer, Trotters head coach Steven Schumacher said: “He’s still a young player but one with a good taste of first-team experience at a high level who wants to keep improving and developing with us.

“Hopefully we will bring the best out of him in a role he’s keen to play and I’m excited about what he can do for us this season.”
