Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United promotion hero Will Vaulks makes Tranmere Rovers move
A figure beloved by Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United fans has made a homecoming move
Sheffield Wednesday cult hero and former Rotherham United star Will Vaulks has made a full-circle move back to Tranmere Rovers.
The 32-year-old midfielder was born in Merseyside and made his way into the senior game via Tranmere’s academy.
He did not make a single first-team appearance for the club, instead establishing himself north of the border with Falkirk.

Vaulks later became a beloved figure in South Yorkshire, first making 137 appearances for Rotherham between and 2019. He played a key role in the Millers’ promotion from League One in 2018 and left for Cardiff City a year later with the club’s best wishes.
After three years in Wales, he returned to Yorkshire with Wednesday in 2022. He endeared himself to the Hillsborough faithful with his all-action displays in midfield, as well as his community work away from the pitch.
He was a crucial cog in the Wednesday machine that escaped League One in 2023, although saw a stunning strike in the play-off final win over Barnsley chalked off.
Will Vaulks makes homecoming move
Vaulks left the Owls for Oxford United in 2024 and after two years at the Kassam Stadium, has dropped into the fourth tier to go back home.
He told Tranmere’s website: “I’m grateful to be back. I spent 10 years at the club, but never played a first team game, so this is a move that has been on my mind for a number of years now. I really wanted to come back to my boyhood club.
“I made it clear that I wasn’t going anywhere else, other than to Tranmere, it was the club I wanted to join. I’m a Wirral boy and I can’t wait to give everything for the club.”

‘Very good additon’
Vaulks has penned a two-year deal at Prenton Park, adding a wealth of experience to Darrell Clarke’s ranls.
Clarke said: “We’re delighted to bring Will back to the football club. He’s had an excellent career, playing a lot of football at Championship level, and he brings real experience, leadership and quality into the middle of the pitch.
“He knows what the club means to the people of the Wirral and he understands the standards that are expected here. He’s still got a real hunger to be successful, and his character, professionalism and know-how will be invaluable to the group. He’s a very good addition for us and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
