Sheffield Wednesday 'advancing' in talks over deal for Wrexham's ex-Sunderland midfielder George Dobson
Sheffield Wednesday are said to be moving closer to the loan signing of a Wrexham midfielder
Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly advancing in talks over a deal to sign George Dobson on loan from Wrexham.
The 28-year-old midfielder has been an important cog in the Wrexham machine for the last two years, helping the club seal promotion from League One and then finish seventh in the Championship.
Wednesday were linked with Dobson earlier in the summer and talk of interest from Hillsborough recently resurfaced.
It was suggested a window to sign Dobson could be opened by Wrexham’s pursuit of Preston North End star Ben Whiteman, which appears to be picking up pace.

Sheffield Wednesday ‘advancing’ in loan deal talks
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Wednesday are making progress in talks over a deal to sign the former Sunderland and Charlton Athletic man.
Posting on X, he said: “Sheffield Wednesday are advancing in talks to sign Wrexham midfielder George Dobson on loan.”
Dobson has over 300 League One appearances on his CV and would arguably be a sensible addition to the Wednesday ranks.
He would be bolstering a midfield that has already been strengthened by the signings of Barry Bannan, Billy Mitchell and Callum Slattery.
George Dobson’s time at Wrexham
Dobson is under contract at Wrexham until the summer of 2028 having put pen to paper on an extension in February this year.
After seeing the midfielder’s Red Dragons stay extended, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson hailed the manner in which Dobson has adapted to Championship life.

He said: “We’re really pleased with George. He’s adapted to life in the Championship really well. His personality and character are really important in the group, both on matchdays and around the training ground. We’re delighted he’s extended his stay with us.”
Dobson, meanwhile, waxed lyrical about his “amazing” 19 months on the club’s books.
He said: “I’m delighted to sign a new contract with the club. It’s been an amazing 19 months. I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s been a fantastic journey so far. I’m delighted to extend, and hopefully we can create many more special memories.”
