Here’s how we rated the individual performances.

Joe Wildsmith: Little to do, in truth. Unfortunate to concede three goals as he did little wrong. Good late block to thwart Grosicki. 6

Moses Odubajo: Kept Pereira under a tight rein before blotting his copybook with a daft penalty concession. Spoiled a decent night. 5

Dominic Iorfa: Strong at the back and showed leadership and posted an aerial threat at the other end. 7

Liam Palmer: Disciplined and determined and no lack of effort. 6

Jacob Murphy: Stuck to his guns defensively and his deliveries posed problems. 7

Barry Bannan: Wednesday needed Bannan to be on song against high-profile opponents and he was a force in the first period. 6

Massimo Luongo: Battled and worked hard with Bannan in the first period being being sacrificed. 6

Adam Reach: Recalled to the side and threatened with a curler before being denied by alert defending from Gibbs. 6

Kadeem Harris: Attempted to get at O’Shea and needed no second invitation. Kept going and went close in the second half when he struck the post. 7

Jordan Rhodes: Had an early sniff and kept the Albion defenders honest before being sacrificed at the break for the more pacey Da Cruz. 6
