Sheffield Wednesday handed two major injury concerns as key duo are both stretched off against Wycombe

Sheffield Wednesday face a nervous wait after George Byers and Reece James were both stretchered off in their 1-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Byers, who has faced other injury issues this season, was carried off during the first half of the Owls’ win at Adams Park. His name was chanted by the visiting supporters as he left the field and the injury worries did not end there with James also helped off late in the second half after an awkward landing.

Owls manager Darren Moore confirmed that Byers sustained a foot injury while James has picked up an ankle problem. He was unable to add any further details, as the League One club prepare for further assessments next week.

“I can’t give you a prognosis on the length of time – if at all any – but George’s is a cut on the top of his foot, and Reece’s was his ankle. Until they’ve both settled down in the week we won’t be able to assess them,” said Moore.

“But it’s a victory today that’s come at a cost. That’s the game here, though, you’re going to have to put your body on the line and we’ve come off with a couple of casualties. But it’s still a rewarding victory.”

Wednesday are already without captain Barry Bannan due to injury and further problems for another key pair are a cause for concern for Moore’s side.
