Sunderland 'set' for talks with former Hull City, Derby County and Brighton & Hove Albion man

Sunderland are reportedly set for a second round of talks with former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior.

The 39-year-old has been out of work since the end of the 2023/24 season, when he was dismissed by Hull in a surprise move. He had led the Tigers to the brink of the Championship play-offs but was axed with his playing style cited as a factor in the decision.

Since joining the market, Rosenior has been linked with the Sunderland vacancy but the Black Cats are yet to make an appointment. They ended the season with an interim head coach at the helm but have taken their time finding a permanent figure.

According to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, Rosenior is set for more talks with Sunderland about the possibility of taking the reins. He was reportedly an initial target at the end of the season but was keen to listen to offers from elsewhere.

Reports have suggested Sunderland have failed to land some of their targets and the heavily-linked Will Still has taken charge of French side Lens. It appears their attention is now back on Rosenior, who is still considered among England’s brightest young coaches.

Still has a burgeoning reputation and had done a stellar job in France with Reims. He had emerged as an early frontrunner for the Sunderland vacancy btu the 31-year-old has opted to remain in Ligue 1.
