'Nowhere near good enough' - Scott Lindsey admits York City were 'poor' in defeat to Grimsby Town
Scott Lindsey has reflected on York City’s 5-2 defeat to Grimsby Town
Scott Lindsey admitted his York City side were “poor” in their 5-2 defeat to Grimsby Town.
The Mariners had five different scorers as they struck three times in 12 minutes late in the second half to seal a convincing League Two victory.
Andy Cook put the hosts in front and Iwan Morgan sent them in level at the break after goals from Alex Hunt and Jack Hunt had turned the game in York’s favour.
Cameron McJannet, Josh Andrews and Geza David Turi all found the net in the second half and York had no response.

Scott Lindsey reflects
Lindsey said: “We scored goals, but we can’t concede in the fashion we did today. It was nowhere near good enough. We’ve just got to get back to the training ground and work on it. It’s as simple as that, you work harder.
“You only get out of football what you’re prepared to put into it and I’m really disappointed with this performance.
“We were poor and that’s on me, because it didn’t look like us for long spells. You get one of these games every now and then at this level, but we can’t be happy with that.”
The Grimsby Town view
Grimsby boss David Artell, meanwhile, saluted the way in which his players limited York.
He said: “I thought our out-of-possession shape against a very good York team was commendable. We’re up against a side that have created the most big chances in the league, but we limited them outside of the goals.

“If you do limit them going forward, then you’ll always have a great opportunity, because they are an in-possession football team – that is where most of their strengths lie.
“They make you work hard against the ball, but then we tweaked something at half-time and then we were outstanding and our in-possession play became more prevalent after that.
“I thought it was a really good advert for League Two because it was a great game of football.”
