FULL-TIME: York City 0 Port Vale 2

YORK CITY’S relegation fears were heightened after a 2-0 defeat at home to Port Vale left them just one point above the relegation trapdor.

A 3-2 win for bottom club Accrington Stanley at home to third-bottom Barnet means Nigel Worthington’s team now are now at the top of a group of six teams with just one point between them.

City have seven games to ensure they remain in League Two, but that hope took an early blow at Bootham Crescent when Jennison Myrie-Williams put Port Vale ahead in the seventh-minute.

Lee Hughes made it 2-0 in the 48th minute and there was no way back for the home side.

“What I have done today is learnt a hell of a lot about the group here and started to understand why they are in the position they are in,” said Worthington after his third game in charge.

“What we’ve got in there we’ve got in there and we’ve got to pull together to get ourselves out of the situation that we’ve come to find ourselves in.”
