Castleford Tigers grant Alex Mellor release as latest rebuild continues
Castleford Tigers captain Alex Mellor has been released from the final year of his contract to take up an opportunity with another Super League club.
The experienced back-rower is set to make his final appearance for the Tigers against former side Huddersfield Giants on Saturday.
Mellor has been a consistent performer in a struggling Castleford side, making over 100 appearances since his midseason move from Leeds Rhinos in 2022. He has been linked with a move to Catalans Dragons.
"Castleford Tigers can confirm that captain Alex Mellor will depart the club at the end of the 2026 season to take up an opportunity with another Betfred Super League side," read a statement.
"We'd like to thank Alex for all his efforts in the black and amber and wish him all the very best for the future."
Mellor becomes the latest confirmed departure from Wheldon Road after the Tigers announced the exits of Joe Westerman, Daejarn Asi, Joe Stimson, Sam Hall and Cain Robb.
Damien Cook, Mat Feagai, Tyrell Sloan, Robbie Mulhern, Alfie Johnson, Mason Lino and Ben McNamara have all agreed deals with Castleford but the club remain on the lookout for a new head coach following Ryan Carr's recent departure.
