Castleford Tigers to 'build club around' Krystian Mapapalangi after tying down star man

Castleford Tigers have received a major boost after star centre Krystian Mapapalangi committed his future to the club until the end of the 2029 season.

The 23-year-old has been Castleford's shining light this season, scoring six tries and providing four assists since moving to Super League from Australia in January.

Mapapalangi's performances have turned heads but he is now contracted to the Tigers long-term, much to the delight of director of rugby Chris Chester.

"He's been a great addition to our squad and has made an unbelievable impact on the field so far this year," said Chester.

"I have a great relationship with Mapz going back a few years now. To have him at the club for the next three years is a significant signing for the club.

"He is exactly the type of player we want to build a club around."

Mapapalangi made six NRL appearances during his time at Newcastle Knights but joined Castleford after a season in the New South Wales Cup.

He has been a revelation in Super League and is now ready to make Wheldon Road home.

"I'm really pleased we finally got the deal done," said Mapapalangi.

"I'm playing good footy and didn't want to move. It's really suited my style playing here with the boys.

"I'm really enjoying my footy as you can tell on the weekends. I'm building connections each week and am happy to be doing that into the future.

"The fans have been massive. I remember playing my first game here – it was surreal.

"I heard about the fans before I came here and to actually see it live was pretty incredible. I'm happy to do that for the next three years."
