The 31-year-old Australian signed for Rovers from Leeds ahead of the 2019 Super League campaign and was contracted until the end of next year.

His addition is a major coup for Toulouse, who play in the Betfred Championship.

Garbutt said: “I am very honored to have the opportunity to join Toulouse Olympique.

"I only come with one goal, to help the club move up to the Super League.

"After speaking with Sylvain [Houles, Olympique's coach] the decision was very easy to take and I can't wait to play in blue and white."

The French club's chairman Bernard Sarrazain said: “To get into the Super League we need players who have experience of big games and this is the case with Mitch."

Garbutt played for Melbourne Storm and Brisbane Broncos before joining Leeds midway through 2015.

He was a member of their treble-winning side that year and a Grand Final champion again in 2017.

He has made 22 appearances for Rovers and added: "I'd like to thank the fans, the staff and all the players for making me feel welcome from the moment I stepped through the doors last season.

"I've had a great time. I'm looking forward to closing out the year with Rovers.

"I've really enjoyed my time at the club so far."
