Jim Lenihan raids former Queensland Cup team for first Huddersfield Giants signing

Jim Lenihan has made his first signing as Huddersfield Giants head coach after recruiting Zane Dunford from former club Brisbane Tigers to bolster his struggling squad.

The Australian back-rower, who joined the Tigers from Manly Sea Eagles' feeder team, scored three tries in nine Queensland Cup appearances in the first half of 2026.

Dunford, 24, will arrive in England this weekend to begin his 18-month contract with the Giants.

"I brought Zane over from Manly to Brisbane this year and when the opportunity came up to bring him to Huddersfield, we jumped at it," said Lenihan, whose side sit bottom of Super League at the halfway mark.

"He's a great middle who has been playing and excelling in the back row. A good line runner and tough in defence, we're over the moon to have him here for the next 18 months.

"Zane's also a great bloke as well and fits in with the people who we want to recruit here. He's looking forward to his chance in Super League and playing for Huddersfield."
