Keighley Cougars 16 Dewsbury Rams 20: Dewsbury finally break their duck

DEWSBURY Rams secured their first league win of the season as Northern Rail semi-finalists Keighley Cougars were downed.

The first points on the board came via a penalty from Keighley's Danny Jones.

A try followed from the visiting Rams when Pat Walker sent Rob Spicer over but Ed Barber failed with the goal attempt.

The Rams then conceded another penalty and Jones levelled the score at 4-4.

When Jones was sent to the sin bin for back-chat to referee David Merrick the Rams capitalised with Aiden Faal diving in at the corner for a try. Dominic Brambani took on kicking duties but he, too, missed.

A try just before the half-time break put the Cougars back in the lead as Brendon Rawlins added his name to the scoresheet. Jones, back on the pitch, added the extras for a 10-8 lead.

The second half began well for the Rams and in a heavy downpour things went from bad to worse for the Cougars who made silly errors and gave the visitors too much ball and field.

Further tries from Walker and Andrew Bostock followed along with conversions from Brambani.

The Cougars scored a consolation try in the final minute of the game through James Feather and a conversion from Jones to ensure a vital bonus point in their pursuit of the Rams and Whitehaven.
