'One hot day doesn't make a summer': Jim Lenihan urges Huddersfield Giants to kick on after welcome win

Jim Lenihan has told Huddersfield Giants that "one hot day doesn't make a summer" after a much-needed win at York Knights.

Super League's bottom side had lost their previous 12 games before ending their barren run on Saturday afternoon.

The Giants appeared to be cruising to victory, only to concede two late tries in a nervy finish.

"It's a bit more of a relief," said Lenihan following the 24-22 win. "I'm happy for the players more than anything else.

"We've been working really hard at trying to better ourselves. We're changing the way we're thinking about ourselves.

"It's been a little while since we've had a good pat on the back. It's good to be able to enjoy the win but one hot day doesn't make a summer."

Huddersfield are now within four points of second-bottom Hull FC ahead of Thursday's clash on home soil.

"It'd be lovely to win against Hull and get a little closer," added Lenihan. "But we'd like to think there are three, four, five wins left in us at the back end of the year.

"We're looking forward to the back end of the football year."

For Mark Applegarth's York, it was another disappointing result after losing to Toulouse Olympique in their previous outing.

The Knights got the better of Huddersfield at Magic Weekend in the middle of a three-match winning run but were second best on home soil.

"Congratulations to Huddersfield firstly," said Applegarth.

"They've been in a lot of close games of late and were due to get one over the line. Unfortunately for us, we've given them that opportunity.

"We're very inconsistent at the moment. It feels like we take three steps forward and then a couple back.

"We've just got to keep on chasing that consistency in our performance."
