Ovenden 10 Halifax 88: Halifax blast their way past Ovenden

HALIFAX cruised into the fourth round but National Conference Ovenden battled tirelessly and wings Matt Short and Kurt Sutcliffe scored either side of half-time. However, Luke Branighan had begun the procession after 63 seconds.

Paul White was next over, Paterson converting. A four-minute hat-trick from Shad Royston followed with Paterson kicking Halifax 26-0 ahead. Rob Worrincy scored before Short dived over, Mick Holden converting.

Replacement prop Frank Watene and Branighan added further tries, Paterson converting both, but the start of the second half brought a second try for Ovenden, Sutcliffe scoring, but Branighan then completed his hat-trick and teenager Anthony Bowman stormed over.

Mark Roberts touched down before Branighan grabbed a fourth, and White, Roberts, Sean Penkywicz and Jon Goddard all crossed. Paterson finished with 10 successful conversions, Stephen Bannister adding an 11th.
