Wakefield Trinity have been hit by another Covid-19 outbreak after three players and one member of staff tested positive for the virus.

Head coach Chris Chester was made aware of the news late on Wednesday evening and will be without four players in total for Thursday night's fixture against Huddersfield Giants after one further player was stood down following the implementation of track and trace protocols.

The fixture is currently scheduled to go ahead but Chester admits it is "another kick in the teeth" having seen his side hit by numerous positive tests since the season resumed.

"We have had four positives this week, three players and one member of staff," confirmed Chester.

"We were made aware of it last night and all of those people are self-isolating for 10 days. We have had to stand extra two people down, one player and one member of staff, with the track and trace issue.

"It is another kick in the teeth. We have got those guys back that have missed the last couple of weeks through track and trace.

"Taking away the four guys we have to stand down, we are looking pretty fit and healthy."

Chester admits he is unsure where the positive cases are coming from but feels there is a possibility they all stem from Trinity's trip to Catalans Dragons at the beginning of the month.

He added: "It is just guesswork, we have no idea. We think it has all stemmed from that Catalans game and gone around the club.

"Again, it is all guesswork. We are being really strict with what the players are doing here, they are still in their small groups.

"It is hard to say. It is obviously disappointing for those guys that are having to stand down again. There is one player who has had to stand down three times in the space of six or seven weeks.

"The fortunate thing is there is still four weeks left in the season and we should get some of those guys back before the end of the year."
